What Can I Expect on My First Visit

Going to the Chiropractor is a new experience for many of us. Maybe you've heard through a friend or have done research online. It's possible that you are just fed up with living in pain and it's time to do something about it. In either case, your first visit to the chiropractor will really be about getting to know the doctor and discussing your history, current condition, and goals.

Many times there are many conditions a new patient is concerned with and experiencing.  Depending on what kind of condtion you present with will determine which doctor you will initially see in our office.  Our practice philosophy primarily focuses on conservative treatment, which usually means your first visit will be with one of our staff chiropractors.  Because of the rigourous training and education a chiropractor receives, our chiropractors are a useful screening tool to guide a new patient down the right path and treatment plan with the appropriate doctor.  Chiropractors are sometimes limited in the conditions they treat, but with all the tools available at our office, the right doctor will be paired with each patient.  Our chiropractors will be able to determine if traditional medical care is required.

As with any doctor's visit, you'll start by providing our office with essential paperwork.  After this, a detailed history and physical exam will be performed.  This will aid the chiropractor in establishing the proper diagnosis, mode of injury, and further treatment needed.  Once these exams are completed, it may be necessary to take x-rays of the spine or injured area.  X-rays are done in most situations regardless of injury type.  By taking X-rays, the chiropractor has the proper tool and screening device to determine whether or not its safe to adjust a patient's spine.  By combining the results of each examine, the chiropractor can establish the appropratie diagnosis and treatment plan specific for each patient.  At the conclusion of your first visit, a patient may receive heat and electrical stimulation on the area of complaint, but an adjustment is usually performed after the chiropractor can review all exam findings.  This is usually done on the 2nd visit.

At your second visit, the chiropractor will discuss the results and findings of his examine, show and discuss the X-rays taken, answer any sort of question the patient may have, and perform the patient's first adjustment.
